Synopsis

Release Date:

July 24,2012

A darker, and morally ambiguous take on the classic tale, this version of Treasure Island is successful mostly because of the singularly strong performance of Eddie Izzard as Long John Silver.

Loaded with high-energy action, and reckless pirate adventure, the original miniseries TREASURE ISLAND arrives on Blu-ray Disc and DVD July 24 from Sonar Entertainment and Vivendi Entertainment. Recently making its US premiere May 5 on Syfy, and from imaginative Director Steve Barron (“Merlin”), comes the gritty and intense new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel. TREASURE ISLAND stars Emmy® winner Eddie Izzard (“The Riches,”), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings films), Golden Globe® winner Donald Sutherland (Hunger Games, Citizen X), Toby Regbo (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1), Rupert Penry-Jones (Match Point, “Whitechapel”) and Daniel Mays (The Adventures of Tintin).

“A swaggering treat” (The Daily Mail), TREASURE ISLAND follows a young Jim Hawkins (Regbo) as he becomes a part of an action-filled buccaneer adventure. After finding a cryptic drawing, Jim enlists the help of Dr. Livesey (Mays) and Squire Trelawney (Penry-Jones) who realize the artifact it is actually a treasure map. Once they discover its hidden purpose, Squire commissions a ship and crew, including hiring the mysterious Long John Silver (Izzard), to seek the buried riches. Jim sets sail with the crew, he soon learns that things are not as they seem. Squire and Dr. Livesey may have other secret intentions, and meanwhile the crew is planning mutiny over the ship’s Captain. Now Jim must find out what mystery lies on Treasure Island before it’s too late. A thrilling new adaptation, TREASURE ISLAND also stars Philip Glenister (Calendar Girls), David Harewood (Blood Diamond) and Shirley Henderson (Bridget Jones’s Diary).
