Despite a stellar performance from Tom Cruise, and hilarious turns by Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin, Rock Of Ages fails to hit all the right notes due to very stagnant direction, an at times cringe-worthy script and an overall failure to grasps the difference between Rock N Roll and broadway theatrics. Rock of Ages could have been a great film in the hands of a good director with a great visual flair and a true understanding of how to shoot a rock n' roll musical (Baz Lurhman -where are you when we need you). Cruises performance almost makes the film worth seeing on it owns -almost.

While the blu-ray does include an extended edition, all this really does is prolong the agony of Adam Shankman's direction, making the viewer even more dismayed. I wish Rock Of Ages was a different movie.

It will be nothin’ but a good time when “Rock of Ages” arrives onto Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download on October 9 from Warner Home Entertainment Group. Based on the hit Broadway musical and featuring the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Twisted Sister and more, “Rock of Ages” is a love story that celebrates big dreams and loud drums. The Blu-ray Combo Pack features the extended edition, with over 13 additional minutes of more songs, more dancing and more laughs.
From director Adam Shankman (“Hairspray”), “Rock of Ages” follows small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams.  The musical comedy stars Julianne Hough (“Burlesque”) as Sherrie and actor/singer Diego Boneta in his feature film debut as Drew. Sharing the journey with Sherrie and Drew is an all-star cast including Russell Brand (“Arthur,” “Get Him to the Greek”), Academy Award® nominee Paul Giamatti (“Cinderella Man”), Academy Award® winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (“Chicago”), Malin Akerman (“The Proposal”), R&B queen Mary J. Blige and multiple Emmy®-winner Bryan Cranston (TV’s “Breaking Bad,” “The Lincoln Lawyer”), with Academy Award® nominees Alec Baldwin (“The Cooler”) and Tom Cruise (“Born on the Fourth of July” – anything more recent?).
“Rock of Ages” will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack for $35.99 and on single disc DVD for $28.98.  The Blu-ray Combo Pack features the extended edition and theatrical version of the film in hi-definition on Blu-ray, and the theatrical version in standard definition on DVD.  Both the Blu-ray Combo Pack and the single disc DVD include UltraViolet which allows consumers to download and instantly stream the standard definition theatrical version of the film to a wide range of devices including computers and compatible tablets, smartphones, game consoles, Internet-connected TVs and Blu-ray players.*  On October 9, “Rock of Ages” will be available for download from online digital retailers including iTunes, Xbox, PlayStation, Amazon, Vudu and CinemaNow.
The film is also available digitally starting October 9 in High Definition (HD) VOD and Standard Definition (SD) VOD from cable and satellite providers, and on select gaming consoles.
