Synopsis

Release Date:

October 9,2012

ALSO AVAILABLE ON DVD!

These past couple months have been heaven for fans Steven Spielberg's best films. First the stunning Jaws restoration is released on blu-ray! Then the absolutely enthralling Raiders Of The Lost Ark blu-ray presentation hit home (along with the rest of Indiana Jones' big screen adventures) and now the film that pulled at all our childhood heart-strings - E.T.! There is little that can be said of the film itself that hasn't been said before - it is clearly a masterwork from a master director at the peak of his game. It encapsulates all that people associate with Steven Spielberg and it feels as fresh today as it did 30 years ago.

The blu-ray is nothing short of stunning. John Williams masterful score (which accompanies nearly every frame of the film) soars in 7.1 surround. The special features are plentiful and engaging (although I wish they had included the ability to play the live score recorded at the Shrine for the 20th anniversary along with the film - a cool feature on the DVD release of a few years back -although that would have meant including the often derided 20th Anniversary extended and digitally enhanced version - we are happy to report that the guns are firmly back in the agents grips!).

If you've seen E.T., and you own a blu-ray player, you've probably already picked this set up. If you haven't, what are you waiting for.

When an imaginative boy meets a lost alien, it is the beginning of one of cinema’s most endearing friendships, as Elliot (Henry Thomas) helps the marvelous creature he calls E.T. find his way back home before government agents can capture him.
