David Andrew Samberg (born August 18, 1978) is an American comedian, actor, writer and a crunk rapper. He is a member of the comedy troupe The Lonely Island (along with Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer) and a repertory player on Saturday Night Live.
Samberg was born in Mill Valley, California on August 18, 1978 to Margi Marrow, an elementary school teacher who taught at Old Mill School Mill Valley, California , and Joe Samberg, a photographer. He grew up in a Jewish household and his maternal grandfather, Alfred J. Marrow, served as the executive chair of the American Jewish Congress. He was "weaned" on Jewish comedy as a child, in particular, Mel Brooks. At the age of 8, he began dreaming about being on Saturday Night Live. He went to Old Mill Elementary School in Mill Valley. Samberg graduated in 1996 from Berkeley High School and began college at University of California, Santa Cruz. He then transferred to New York University to study film at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where he graduated with a B.F.A. in 2000.
In September 2005, The Lonely Island confirmed that Samberg would be joining Saturday Night Live as a featured player and his fellow members of The Lonely Island
